Industrial and environmental analytics – Professor Janusz Gołaś Jubilee Session

Scientific session covering analytical issues from industrial to environmental, dedicated to the outstanding Polish analyst prof. Janusz Gołaś, who has been associated with AGH for 50 years.
Prof. dr. hab. Janusz Gołaś headed the Department of Coal Chemistry and Environmental Sciences at AGH University until 2020. Among other things, he is the author of more than 600 publications, two books and one patent, as well as presentations in internationally recognized journals. He has promoted 14 doctoral theses, including seven awarded. From 1995 to 2005, as Director of the International School of Technology, he coordinated the international program of first and second degree programs conducted at AGH in English based on a dual degree agreement with the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, USA). As Plenipotentiary of the Rector, he created the university’s English Language Subject Database from 2007 to 2016. He gave invited lectures in English in various programs (among others Univ. of Illinois, San Diego State Univ., Laos National Univ., Oxford Univ., Illinois Institute of Technology). He managed 13 projects funded by the Committee for Scientific Research, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education or the National Center for Research and Development, two educational projects of the Marie Curie Fund for the implementation of engineering studies conducted in English into the Polish educational system. Author and manager of a research and teaching project carried out at AGH from 2000 to 2010 (Department of Environmental Sciences) funded by the Kosciuszko Foundation based in New York ($1 million).
Manager and coordinator of the project Development of Coal Gasification Technology for High Efficiency Fuel and Power Production (CoalGas) funded by the European Union through the Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) InnoEnergy (budget EUR 14.5 million). From 2004 to 2009, he led a programme on the analysis of mercury in the environment in a European project funded under the 6th Framework Programme AQUATERRA.
Prof. Janusz Golas has had several years of research stays at American universities (State University of New York, University of Illinois, National Science Foundation). From 2012 to 2014, he was the European Alumni Coordinator (Transition and Alumni Officer) for the KIC Innoenergy graduate programmes
(Krakow, Barcelona, Grenoble, Dusseldorf, Leuven,Stokholm). He has been a member of the Committee on Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences from 2000 to the present. He was a member of the Scientific Policy Committee at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for two terms (2016-2020). The professor is a member of the Scientific Council of the Polish Ecological Club Małopolska. In 2021, he was appointed to the Presidential Council for Energy, Environment and Natural Resources.
Winner of 3 Awards of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, 20 Awards of the Rector of AGH, Silver Cross of Merit, National Education Medal and awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding merits in scientific and research work and teaching.
