Environmental Session – Coordinator: Professor Katarzyna Styszko
Discussion will focus on the impact of the energy sector on the environment, climate change, and global warming. Topics will include methods for identifying new pollutants, closed-loop economy, and environmental protection.
Industrial and environmental analytics – Professor Janusz Gołaś Jubilee Session
Scientific session covering analytical issues from industrial to environmental, dedicated to the outstanding Polish analyst prof. Janusz Gołaś, who has been associated with AGH for 50 years.
Prof. dr. hab. Janusz Gołaś headed the Department of Coal Chemistry and Environmental Sciences at AGH University until 2020. Among other things, he is the author of more than 600 publications, two books and one patent, as well as presentations in internationally recognized journals. He has promoted 14 doctoral theses, including seven awarded. From 1995 to 2005, as Director of the International School of Technology, he coordinated the international program of first and second degree programs conducted at AGH in English based on a dual degree agreement with the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, USA). As Plenipotentiary of the Rector, he created the university’s English Language Subject Database from 2007 to 2016. He gave invited lectures in English in various programs (among others Univ. of Illinois, San Diego State Univ., Laos National Univ., Oxford Univ., Illinois Institute of Technology). He managed 13 projects funded by the Committee for Scientific Research, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education or the National Center for Research and Development, two educational projects of the Marie Curie Fund for the implementation of engineering studies conducted in English into the Polish educational system. Author and manager of a research and teaching project carried out at AGH from 2000 to 2010 (Department of Environmental Sciences) funded by the Kosciuszko Foundation based in New York ($1 million).
Manager and coordinator of the project Development of Coal Gasification Technology for High Efficiency Fuel and Power Production (CoalGas) funded by the European Union through the Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) InnoEnergy (budget EUR 14.5 million). From 2004 to 2009, he led a programme on the analysis of mercury in the environment in a European project funded under the 6th Framework Programme AQUATERRA.
Prof. Janusz Golas has had several years of research stays at American universities (State University of New York, University of Illinois, National Science Foundation). From 2012 to 2014, he was the European Alumni Coordinator (Transition and Alumni Officer) for the KIC Innoenergy graduate programmes
(Krakow, Barcelona, Grenoble, Dusseldorf, Leuven,Stokholm). He has been a member of the Committee on Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences from 2000 to the present. He was a member of the Scientific Policy Committee at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for two terms (2016-2020). The professor is a member of the Scientific Council of the Polish Ecological Club Małopolska. In 2021, he was appointed to the Presidential Council for Energy, Environment and Natural Resources.
Winner of 3 Awards of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, 20 Awards of the Rector of AGH, Silver Cross of Merit, National Education Medal and awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding merits in scientific and research work and teaching.

Hydrogen Session – Coordinator: Professor Magdalena Dudek
This session will address innovative hydrogen storage technologies, applications in transportation, developing energy infrastructure, industrial production, fuel cell research, and ecological and sustainable development aspects. Challenges and prospects associated with hydrogen technology development will also be discussed, creating a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences in this dynamically evolving field.
Nuclear Energy and Radiochemistry Sessions – Coordinators: Dr. Ing. Pawel Gajda and Professor Katarzyna Szarłowicz
Focusing on nuclear energy for its potential role in providing stable and low-emission energy, this session will cover technological aspects, safety, and future prospects in this sector. Presentations on radiochemistry will consider its crucial role in nuclear energy processes, including fuel cycle analysis, radioactive waste management, and innovations in radiochemical research methods. This session will provide a platform for discussing contemporary challenges and achievements in nuclear energy and radiochemistry.
Monitoring, Diagnostics and Improving the Efficiency of Energy Equipment – Coordinators: Professor Piotr Dzierwa and Professor Marcin Trojan
The session will focus on monitoring the operation and increasing energy efficiency, district heating and industrial systems. The discussion will revolve around issues related to the diagnostics of energy systems, particularly concerning the detection, prediction and prevention of failures. The session will also address issues related to extending lifetime and improving the efficiency of power equipment, including waste heat. This is important given the ever-increasing demand for electricity and increasingly stringent environmental standards and emission limits.
Energy and Energy Policy Sessions – Coordinators: Professor Artur Wyrwa and Professor Karol Sztekler
This session will concentrate on energy technologies, efficiency, and innovations in the energy sector, intelligent energy management systems, nuclear energy, renewable technologies, and energy storage. Discussions will revolve around the conditions and directions for managing fuels and energy, the relationship between the energy sector and the country’s economic progress, and the state’s role in shaping fuel and energy markets. The session will address economic issues related to fuel and energy management, analyzing conditions and potential for financing innovative projects, markets, and risks in the fuel and energy sector, as well as the functioning of fuel and energy companies in the energy market.
Catalysis in Fuel industry – Coordinators: Professor M. Motak, Professor M. Inger, Professor M. Lewandowski
The session focuses on the pivotal role of catalysis in the fuel industry. Catalysis is a critical process in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of fuel production, from refining conventional fossil fuels to developing renewable biofuels and synthetic fuels.
Experts in the field will present the latest advancements in catalytic technologies, exploring topics such as innovative catalysts that reduce environmental impacts, the role of catalysis in biomass conversion, and breakthroughs in catalytic methods for CO2 utilization. This session will also delve into the challenges and future prospects of catalysis in achieving cleaner fuel production and greater energy efficiency.
Attendees can expect to gain insights into the integration of catalysis in fuel production chains, advancements in catalytic materials, and the potential of catalysis in meeting global energy demands while adhering to environmental standards. This session is essential for professionals and researchers interested in the latest developments in fuel production technology and sustainability.

Professor Wojciech Suwała Jubilee Session
Dedicated to the outstanding career of Prof. W. Suwała, specializing in energy, mining, economics, and environmental protection. Professor Suwała, with extensive experience at AGH and serving as the dean of the Faculty of Energy and Fuels, will be honored for his significant impact on Polish science.
